Went to Auckland on the pretense of putting a small incentive group into another hotel here. Ultimately, that hotel was not up to scratch, so back to square one. Looked at a few properties – truth be told, there are no 5-star properties in Auckland – and was delightfully surprised by the Hilton. The location at the end of a pier in the buzzy viaduct area of Auckland – is worth its weight in gold. There’s so much going on around – all within walking distance. Plus, you’ve got Britomart and even Sky City if you want to walk 10 minutes. Easy peezy. What I really liked though, was the design. The property is contemporary and WHITE – very clean and cool with big windows facing right onto the water. The restaurant FISH is the only restaurant on site but who cares – the bar is relaxing and hip and opens onto that view again. Food was very good in the restaurant. And so many choices within walking distance, all good.
I looked at several rooms – if you can swing a harborview room – those are the ones to take. If you can swing a harborview plus room – grab it. And if you really have some money, absolutely grab the bow suite – shaped like a boat – this is the penultimate view. Rooms have a modern, spare feel.
