Wild Horses in New Mexico – Courtesy Aunt Julie

In Placitas, as in many other parts of New Mexico, we have several herds of wild horses. These herds of horses have been formed from horses that escaped over the last 300 years and roamed freely in the hills and valleys.  Now that people are encroaching on their territory, they have become more used to people and very often will stop by for a visit on their way to the creek for water, especially when they know that you enjoy seeing them and are not going to hurt them.  It really helps too if you have a lawn that needs mowing!
